The college recently hosted its second Sports Personality of the Year awards, to highlight outstanding students who have contributed to college sport.
The evening’s big winner – the college’s Sports Personality of the Year – was student Akym Davis, a talented football and basketball player who has shown consistent hard work in both sport and his academic studies.
Akym recently moved to the UK from his home country Jamaica to pursue his educational and sporting ambitions. He quickly cemented his place as goalkeeper in the college’s football team, where he has been a constant presence.
For the last three years, the college has hosted an annual football tournament. Organised by the sport development and student experience teams with help from student volunteers, the event sees both male and female teams, as well as ability counts players, battle it out in a five-a-side extravaganza – competing in a series of group games; with the winners and runners-up progressing to the final in their respective categories – and the chance to be crowned category champions.
