A Levels

Thinking about university? A Levels are the most popular route to take. At West Notts we offer 15 A Level subjects, taught at the Derby Road campus. We also offer the Extended Project Qualification and a new Level 3 maths course to boost your core mathematical skills.

As an A Level student you will work towards 3 or 4 A Level qualifications, take part in enrichment activities, undertake work placements and receive help with your UCAS application.

The study areas also provide room for group work and class discussions.

Our newly-built science laboratories are fully-equipped for students to carry out experiments in a safe, practical environment.

A Level students have access to a number of dedicated study zones with free wi-fi access.

A-Level success continues at West Notts

In 2018, the college’s A Level students celebrated an overall A Level pass rate of 100% (2.4% above the national average!), with many students heading off to their first choice universities!

At West Notts’ Sixth form we offer 16 A Level subjects – from traditional subjects including English, maths and the sciences, to more exclusive choices including law, media and psychology – which you may not find at school!

A set of A Levels will complement any CV and can provide a route into almost any career path, once you’ve progressed on to university-level study.

You’ll need to pick A Level choices carefully – some university courses require specific courses as part of their entry requirements. Make sure you check UCAS before your apply.

Alongside A Levels, you can choose to study the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and can gain additional skills through volunteering or mentoring opportunities – helping you to boost your UCAS applications or CV.

Once you’ve completed A Levels – you may wish to stay at college and move up to our Vision University Centre – where you can study courses at degree-level locally, flexibly and affordably.

A-Level success continues at West Notts

In 2016, the college celebrated a 99% overall pass-rate with our A Level students – above the national average for the country.

Sophia Parvaiz, 18 achieved A* grades in English literature, biology and her EPQ, and a B in chemistry.

She said: “I’m going to study pharmacy at the University of Nottingham as this is something I’ve wanted to do for quite a while. I’m looking to work in a hospital setting but I’ll make my mind up while at university.

“West Notts has been an amazing place. It has some great social aspects and it’s developed me academically.”

George Wragg, did better than he expected, achieving an A* in business studies, A in Media and B in English language. He said: “I didn’t think I had the capability to achieve what I have, so I’ve completely surprised myself.

“I’ve now secured a place at Newcastle University to study marketing, which I’m over the moon about. I didn’t think in a million years I’d be going there – it feels amazing. I can’t wait to go to university and embark on the next challenge in my life.”
